The mysterious deaths of young women in Jeff Davis Parish had stopped for a year prior to the death of 23 year old LaConia “Muggy” Brown. She would become the first of three murders in 2008.
What is very disturbing with this case is that she apparently had began to fear for her life in the days prior to her death and stated that to family members. Who, or what, had instilled that fear in her?
“Muggy”, as she was called by friends and family, is the only victim whose body was found by a law enforcement officer. All of the others were found by private citizens. Even more interesting is that she was found (at 2 am in the morning) on a road leading to the police shooting range. Maybe it’s a routine patrol route at that time of morning but, personally, I find it quite odd that the officer just happened to be patrolling that rather remote area of the city at that time of the night.
It appears obvious that whoever left her body on that gravel road knew it would be discovered quickly and apparently that person had at least some general knowledge of how to destroy forensic evidence, hence the dousing of her body with bleach.
Sadly, like many of the other victims, LaConia left behind a young child. Her three year old son has been left to wonder where his mother is and why she hasn’t come back home. His grandmother painfully tells him that his mama has gone to the store. She has not had the heart yet to explain the truth to him.
